I am a Beaufortonian, having been lucky enough to have grown up in Port Royal. Never having formal training like many artists, I guess you could say that I am a self-taught artist or perhaps taught by nature. The nature that surrounds me living on St. Helena Island, boating on its waterways, or just driving around the Beaufort area taking photographs and looking for ideas – this is where I mostly find my inspiration. My medium of choice is acrylic on wood panel. I build each panel and it is part of my process for the painting to continue around the edge, giving my art dimension. I tend to paint large, and often "portrait like" and close-up. Each piece makes a statement on a wall and does not go unnoticed. Most of my art subjects are from the wildlife in the rivers and marshes such as pelicans, egrets, herons, and alligators; as well as the ocean, sometimes dotted with shorebirds.

My passion to be creative has been with me since my much younger years. From 1989-2006, I owned a furniture company that custom-made furniture for catalog companies such as Ballard Designs and L.L. Bean. Many of my furniture pieces were painted with my art and sold through two retail stores on St. Helena that my wife and I owned, called Bellavista and Octopuses. Unfortunately, in 2006 I had a bad accident which ended my furniture business. Painting became my outlet to stay creative and busy. In 2016,our stores on St. Helena closed, the properties were sold, and Macdonald MarketPlace offered to sell my work. I hope customers enjoy looking at them as much as I enjoy painting them. I am as "happy as a clam” doing what I do, and yes, I love my cat.
